In addition to the
interpretation panels that provide countless information on the
grape producer’s trade and on the history of wine, the ECONOMUSEUM® makes
magazines and books on this fine art available to visitors. One
of these is a classic: Le vin romain antique. Between its covers,
the reader encounters Hervé Durand on the site of a Gallo-Roman
wine operation in the Costières de Nîmes region in
France. Explanations are given about how grapes were grown and
made into wine 2 000 years ago. There is also a unique reconstruction
of an antique wine storehouse.
The vine and wine ECONOMUSEUM® houses fascinating objects that
bear witness to ancestral savoir-faire such as a wooden hand-operated
wine press, demijohns, baskets, bush hooks and hoes. Archaeological
artefacts from Parks Canada, such as bottles and plates from the
end oh the 17th century to the beginning of the 20th century, enrich
the vineyard’s traditional collection.
These items from the past bear tangible witness to the meticulous
work of wine producers from another era. They also enable visitors
to compare techniques from the past with contemporary methods.
The Société internationale des entreprises ECONOMUSÉE® has
created a network of businesses each of which is specialized in
a different artisanal craft or trade. The businesses are spread
across various regions of Quebec and the Maritimes. The Société internationale
des entreprises ECONOMUSÉE®’s mission is to conserve,
develop and showcase heritage crafts and savoir-faire following
the economuseology concept by promoting the setting up of ECONOMUSEUM® across
the country in order to provide the public with an innovative tourism
and cultural product.
